Woodblock printing in Japan is a technique best known for it’s use in the ukiyo-e artistic genre. It was widely adopted in Japan, during the Edo period (1603-1867). Although similar to woodcutin western printmaking, the moku hanga technique differs in that it uses water-based inks thatprovide a wide range of vivid colors, glazes, and transparency.
