Product Description

Based on a photograph of The Flute Lesson (Le Flûteur) by Sèvres Manufactory, modelled under the direction of Étienne-Maurice Falconet (French, 1716 – 1791), after engraved designs of François Boucher (French, 1703 – 1770), dated about 1757 – 1766 (source: Getty Open Content Program).

Flutes are the earliest extant musical instruments. A number of flutes dating to about 43,000 to 35,000 years ago have been found in the Swabian Alb region of Germany. These flutes demonstrate that a developed musical tradition existed from the earliest period of modern human presence in Europe.
